The Top 5️⃣ Premier League Transfers

The January (or winter) transfer window has passed — the dust has settled.

They’re becoming increasingly low-key. Those clubs that have their house in order tend to do any business early, while the ones who panic are generally those down at the bottom, needing to invest to survive.

Then there’s the opportunistic bunch, who wait for the perfect chance to arise.

But, which five deals were the best in the Premier League over the past month?

5. TYRIQUE GEORGE (CHELSEA — EVERTON, LOAN)

Everton went into the transfer window looking for a right-back and a striker, but there were a couple of issues with that plan.

For one, Everton seem incapable of signing a first-team quality right-back, and two, there was a very specific profile of striker required: A more experienced pro, ready to support but also step in for Thierno Barry on a more reliable basis than Beto.

But, Jack Grealish’s season-ending injury midway through January meant Everton had to change tact, and a wide player became a priority.

That opened up the door for a loan move for Chelsea youngster George.

Just now turning 20, George is quick, direct and loves to shoot, which are traits Everton need in a winger. David Moyes just has to trust him, because — like Tyler Dibling — the Toffees have a fantastic talent to nurture, and the deal includes an option to buy.

4. TAMMY ABRAHAM (BESIKTAS — ASTON VILLA, £18.5M)

A complicated deal involving three clubs: Roma, Besiktas and Villa, came to a close last week.

Abraham, the former Chelsea attacker, wanted to return to the Premier League, having left England for Italy in 2021. He also wanted to return to Villa, where he previously spent time on loan.

The 28-year-old serves as Villa’s replacement for Donyell Malen, who went to Roma in January.
